Looking for a great Mykonos beach to visit? Well, you’ve got plenty of options. The southern coast of the island offers the most popular beaches.
Most of these are fully organized, and they’re often ranked among the best beaches in Greece, especially Paradise and Super Paradise.
You’ll find hotels, resorts, cafes, and sea sports facilities all along these beaches.
Up to the north, you’ll find more beaches, but many of these are quiet, undeveloped areas that can only be reached by car. | |
All of the beaches of Mykonos feature incredibly golden brown sand and pure blue waters. However, because of this, these beaches are often very crowded during the tourist season. This is one of the reasons why the northern beaches are sometimes preferred. While they don’t have as many luxuries or accommodations, they are better for those who want to stretch out on a towel and just relax without a lot of people running around them.
Paradise is one of the most popular beaches on the island. Many young people enjoy this beach because of the many parties and the constant loud music. It’s located between the beaches of Paranga and Super Paradise, and it’s reachable by a footpath from Platis Yialos or by taxi-boat or bus. There’s a campground at Paradise along with a diving center, a water sports facility, and many beach bars. Up above the beach on a hill is Cavo Paradiso, a popular nightclub featuring a restaurant, bar, and pool. During the later hours, many people gather on the beach to dance the night away.
Super Paradise is located next to Paradise and can be reached via boat, bus, and taxi-boat. Super Paradise is typically a little less crowded than Paradise, but its golden sand and amazing waters are just as gorgeous. It is one of the most famous gay beaches in the area, although it attracts both straight and gay visitors. During the peak season, it’s often just as crowded as Paradise.
Paranga is actually two different sandy beaches in one. A headland separates the two sandy beaches, which are designated south and north. The south beach is usually the tamer of the two, while the north beach features many taverns and bars that often feature live music.
The beach of Ornos is located near a small fishing village, but it is also the beach closest to Mykonos Town, the capital. It features sun beds, umbrellas, and very fine sand. Because it’s the closest to the city, however, it is usually overrun with tourists. The large nearby hotel complex also contributes to its visitors. You will find windsurfing, water skiing, and diving lessons available, and you can easily reach Ornos via local bus from the city.
Finally, the beach of Platis Yialos features a fully organized experience with restaurants, hotels, and much more. It’s also often very crowded during the summers. Platis Yialos can be reached by bus, but you can also reach this great spot via water taxi. In fact, many of the top beaches on Mykonos are connected via the water taxi boat system, so hopping from one to another is very easy. |
